Taiwan Dramas vs. Kdramas?

So here's my second installment and maybe the last?  I'm not really sure...

So, as I mentioned in my first article, who doesn't remember Shan Sai's best friend in Meteor Garden?  The princess of cuteness, Rainie Yang, to me became even more popular than the main character Barbie Xu.  Alright, so maybe some of you would disagree.  MAYBE but like I said, it's my opinion.
I loved her even more after she made me cry buckets and buckets of tears while watching "Devil Beside You".  Then there was "Why Why Love" where her partner once again was Mike He who in my opinion was just lifeless in both dramas.  Thank goodness Rainie was a good enough actress
to carry her leading man through.  Then the rest for her is history until she did Sunshine Angel which made me want to sleep in every step of the way.  The story was so slow, it reminds me of the Slowskys in the Comcast Xfinity commercial.
On the other hand, there were other T-dramas that were quite interesting like Prince Turns to Frog.  Chen Qiao En and Ming Dao were excellent.  It's a a series that makes you cry, laugh, and want more.  I remember searching for Tdramas with the same story line.  It was like a part of me wanted the story to continue.  To make the long story short I got hooked on Chen Qiao En and watched her other Tdramas.  But once again, it didn't last long.
Despite some disappointments, I continued my search for Asian series or dramas I could watch.  Why?  Because I'm tired of American TV that exhibits nothing but reality shows featuring people who live in a world of make-believe.  Once again, that's just my opinion.  My head is screaming at me telling me to just go ahead and type it down and so there, I just did.
Anyways, let's go back to our topic.  So there was this website called mysoju.com.  I'm saying "was" because the website has been down since few months ago.  When I first saw the list of dramas and series available in the website I remember feeling like I saw an angel that came down from heaven.  The website was so organized, I couldn't ask for more.  Now, around this time, I was also asking my friends back in the Philippines if there are dramas or series they would suggest I should watch and they mentioned "Boys Before Flowers".  When I heard about the plot, I was a little hesitant because it is the Korean version of Meteor Garden and I thought, nah, that can't be good.  I mean, how can it be?   But of course I watched it anyway and for the first time, I stayed up all night watching an Asian drama online.   Then suddenly the Korean language sounds so natural in my ears that I couldn't go back to Tdramas anymore.
Then there was "Full House".  It's been a while since I had seen the show but Bi and Song Hye Kyo's characters still remain in my head.  How can I forget the bickering of Lee Young Jae and Han Ji Eun? What about Gong Yoo questioning his sexuality because he thought Yoon Eun Hye is a guy in the series Coffee Prince?  One K-drama after another and until now, I still am hooked. I can never get tired of K-dramas.  Would you?

    2. And yes, the characters were so lovable it was a little hard for me to watch Full House Take 2 without comparing the male leads for example. But I watched the take 2 anyways :)

  3. I just got into K-dramas... and its been like an addiction. I started with City Hunter which I liked because of the action/adventure plus love story. Then came Boys over Flowers, cute love story but I felt like I was missing the action so I saw Faith. I loved it. I seem like I'm totally on a Lee Min Ho craze, which is something I realized so I wanted to watch a drama with a different male lead. I watched Love Rain which was cute. Now its not like I'm tired of K-dramas and I totally understand when you say you feel comfortable hearing the Korean language in your years but I feel like giving other East Asian media a chance too...I feel like being egalitarian I guess. I'm going to give the T-dramas a try now. I feel like I've written a novel in your comments section lol. But anyway, thanks for your blog posts!

    1. First, thank you for the input and I don't mind the long comment at all. Actually, I like reading the comments.

Secondly, I think trying other East Asian dramas is a good Idea. You might want to try sugoideas.com if you would like to try Taiwan dramas. They have a lot of the dramas subbed in English. And if you enjoyed Boys Over Flower, I bet you'll enjoy the Taiwan verson, Meteor Garden. It had 2 seasons (MG 1 and MG 2)then a side story called Meteor Rain which tells about the story of the other F4 members. The Taiwan version is longer but it didn't made me feel bored. The main characters have their own charm nothing less than the Korean version. I have to tell you though, be prepared to cry, giggle, and feel frustrated because Meteor Garden has all the ingredients to bring out these emotions from it's viewers. :) Have fun!
