Drama Review: The King of Dramas Episode 16

The King of Dramas
Episode 16

Anthony finally admitted not just to himself that he likes Lee Go Eun but also to Sung Min Nah who was waiting for his answer regarding them going back together.

Sung Min Nah was really upset.  To put how she feels into words would be exorbitant; her eyes already professed her disappointment and pain.  Everything was written on her face.

Anthony went back to the hospital only to learn that Go Eun was already discharged.  When Go Eun came home she saw Anthony’s cellphone on her floor and remembers what had happened. The thought made her smile.  Anthony came; she thanked him and asked what happened to the contract signing.  He didn’t tell her the truth, instead said that the transaction went well.  I thought more will happen and I was crestfallen that the conversation between them ended with just a smile.  I sometimes wonder when he is ever going to step up.

The good thing about this drama is that the other female character isn’t really that evil.  She just happens to like a man that doesn’t love her anymore but despite that fact that is like a slap on her face, she still cares about him and his dreams.  Although when she explained to the chairman of Tesan group about what really happened was before the fact, she already has an intuition or feeling that the man she loves has his eyes on someone else.  That is why it is safe to say, she does care about him, sincerely.
That same evening Anthony received a call from Taesan Group. He was informed that the chairman was impressed at how he cares about his writer and doesn’t want to miss the opportunity to work with him so they will just set a new appointment for the contract signing.
When the contract signing was mentioned in the previous episode, I thought something will happen that will put him in a situation where he would have to choose between Lee Go Eun and the contract (his dream). And there was! But instead of a hurdle, it was actually a blessing.   Anthony actually earned some handsome points from the chairman for doing the right thing.  But of course, thanks to Sung Min Ah.

Poor Sung Min Ah, drinking wine alone at her house, grabbed her cellphone and contemplating whether to answer the call from AK (Anthony Kim) or not.  In the end she decided not to.
At the set, the ever clueless Hyun Min looked excited while breaking the “big news” to Min Nah- that they have another commercial offer.  Followed by a disappointed face after Min Nah declared she’s not going to do anymore commercial with him ever.  And you would think Hyun Min would get it, but no, which is actually pretty funny.

There’s just one thing I noticed, not just in this drama but in other dramas too.  I noticed the girls don’t wear their coats/blazers like usual.  They wear them like capes.  They let them hang on their shoulders and that’s it.  I don’t get that at all.  Could anyone explain to me the logic of that?  The comment section is a good place to share your answer and please enlighten me.
Anthony and Min Nah met in the hallway which gave the first the opportunity to thank the latter.  Min Nah told him that she understands his feelings towards Go Eun.  Just as I reckon, Min Nah is not going to let Anthony get away unscathed.  As expected of her character she had to ask him if his feelings towards Go Eun would be the same after the drama they’re working on is over.  So, once again she said she’ll wait for his answer by then.  OMG!  This girl has an irrepressible optimism!
Let’s fast forward a little.  While having lunch (yeah, it looked like lunch time), Go Eun’s mom asked if she has a man and if her man is Kim Bong Dal.  Go Eun was very defensive and denies it.  I say deny because even if she and AK doesn’t have a romantic relationship (yet), it is a fact that she likes him.

AK saw Go Eun’s mom on the street. He offered to give her a ride.  Wow! That to me is a man who wants to earn some handsome points from mama!  While in the car, mom asked if AK knows Kim Bong Dal and mentioned that she feels her daughter has an interest on Kim Bong Dal.  He didn’t profess that he is Kim Bong Dal. Instead, he puts on good words for Kim Bong Dal.  Directly or indirectly, I say HE is serious about getting handsome points from mama!  So funny!
Side comment! J
Just a side comment, while the SBC people are talking about who the best actor should be they mentioned Cha Seung Won as being the best actor for M broadcasting.  Oh well, I just had to say he is indeed a good actor.  That’s all. I just couldn’t let that one slide.  Yeeeh!  Someone’s giggling here!
Going back…J
There are several funny moments in this episode and for the first one thanks to Sung Min Nah and Kang Hyun Min.  The part When male students were talking about how Hyun Min’s acting sucks and the autograph signing specially when the lady in little eatery asked for his signature on a wrinkled ad paper then asked, “What is your name young man?”  Ha Ha Ha!  Meanwhile, outside Min Nah is swarmed by male (students) fans for her autograph.
Another funny part courtesy of Anthony was the irony between Empire and World production.  When the Empire assistant said he is thinking of red ginseng as gifts to broadcasting companies, the boss said, “What red ginseng?  Red ginseng my bum.  That doesn’t suit the scale of Empire. Prepare imported wine. Top notch grade.”  While on the other side of the spectrum is the World Production.
Anthony Kim:  What? Red ginseng? Present Red ginseng to the broadcasting companies with seasonal greetings?
Assistant (PD Joo):  Yes, I think that would be appropriate.
Anthony Kim:  Are you in your right mind? We don’t have money for that!
Also, the part when Hyun min asked his new personal assistant about his acting.  He told him to be honest and so he got what he wanted.  If you’d like to know what I’m talking about, you have to watch episode 16 at www.viki.com. I can’t help but laugh because the actors were just so good!
In this episode, AK is secretly getting to know Go Eun- her interest, favorite food, etc.  He even watched her favorite movie.  While watching, Go Eun came, asked what he was watching and when he didn’t tell her, she assumed that he was watching porn.  I had to smile watching this part specially the way she said her line.  It was just like nothing- like watching porn for guys is normal.  No big deal! But because Go Eun can be very pushy, she’s able to know what he’s actually watching and tried to put him on the spot by indirectly asking him why he’s watching “the movie” when he said before that he doesn’t like it.  When he’s not able to give her a satisfactory answer, she was happy.  AK caught off balance is like a cloud that lifted her to la la land.
Alright, so we know AK did a lot of good in this episode.  But did what he do exactly that should earn him some serious handsome points?  Here are the reasons why AK should get handsome points in this episode:
1.        He tries to win the heart of Lee Go Eun’s mom.  Yes!  This should be first because LGE loves her mom so much that whoever wants to be part of her life, in my opinion needs to love her mom too.
2.       Took LGE to the hospital even if it means losing the opportunity to be a step closer to his dream to become the CEO of a big production company.
3.       He finally admitted not just to himself but to Min Nah that he likes Go Eun.
4.       He is doing his part in getting to know LGE.
5.       AK is grabbing every opportunity to be with LGE and yes, that includes dropping by at her place to return a stapler.
6.       He protects LGE when actors like Hyun Min bug her to change the script while subtly treating her like a pushover.
7.       Buying a couple ring although he’s not able to show them to LGE because of the bad news from the ophthalmologist.
Meanwhile, Hyun Min is having a hard time internalizing his character during the shoot.  He is totally affected after learning about the real perception of people on his acting.  While on a break, he came to Min Nah’s dressing room and asked her point blank what she thinks of his acting.  Her answer wasn’t direct but means the same thing- his acting sucks! Poor thing but he needs to accept the truth and do something about it if he wants respect from viewers and that coveted best actor award.   Min Nah on the other hand didn’t disparage him instead she gave him some valuable advice.

Let’s move to the other couple.  Lee Go Eun and Anthony Kim agreed to meet on Christmas Eve. But because of the bad news from the ophthalmologist, instead of meeting Go Eun, he went to the nursing home where his mom resides.  Just the thought of the fact that his condition has no cure made him cry.  Then he remembers how he complained when his mom wasn’t doing a good job washing his hair or cooking his food when he was young.  At this point I’m thinking more than anything, he’s worried how people would treat him when he becomes blind.  Would Lee Go Eun treat him well or she’ll be like how he was to his mom?  Or maybe, just maybe, now he understands his mom’s situation.
Despite being stood up, Go Eun has a bag full of smiles for Anthony and told him she will renew her contract.  Anthony on the other hand told her to just do it next time and she should just go back to her place and rest.  He turned his back on her and asked when she started liking him.  Go Eun was caught off-guard.  The poor girl was flabbergasted!   Then Anthony said, “I deceived you. I betrayed you. I was so mean to you. Despite all that, when did you start liking me?”  After that, his tears fell.
The last part of the episode just breaks my heart for both AK and LGE.  The first wonders why in spite his negative side this innocent girl still likes him and now that he likes her too, he can’t tell her because he knows one day he’ll be blind.  He doesn’t want to be a burden to her.  She’s still young.  There will be a lot going on for her.   The latter is probably confused why it is so hard for things to just go on smoothly between them.  Why is there always something?
Although I want to wish for AK not to be blind, it won’t make sense since the ophthalmologist already said that his condition is getting worse despite the few symptoms and that there isn’t any cure.  I can’t wait to see what will happen next not just to the two main leads but also to Hyun Min and Min Nah.
See you all next episode!  Share your thoughts with me on the comment section.
Ta nyo o gesseoyo! J
