Drama Review: Cheongdam-dong Alice Episode 10

Cheongdam-dong Alice
Episode 10

Wow!  My week had been really crazy; it was only today that I got the chance to watch the dramas I am following.  Hopefully before I ran out of energy today, I’d be able to catch up on my writing.  My fingers have been itching to update my blog but unfortunately time was a luxury for me last week and probably this week too.

Episode 10 of Cheongdam-dong Alice was a delight.  Finally, our leading lady found the courage to face her fears head on.  In this episode there is balance of crying and fun—which is good!  This series is supposed to be a romantic-comedy, in the first place.  Although, honestly, even the comedy part, is not really comedy, rather it is cute like one of those light, feel-good series.  I don’t consider this a problem, though.  I think it is just fine but if you are looking for some hard-core acting that will leave you contemplative and introspective then this is not for you, especially not this episode.   It is pretty straight forward.  It’s not like the secrets revealed are “secrets” to us viewers, right?  Nonetheless, this episode is like a good breathing ground for the main characters because here, they are one.

I have several favorite parts in this episode.  The first part, of course is one of them.  When Han Se Kyung faced Tommy Hong, showing her inimical side that is not afraid to go against the grain, is definitely something.  It’s always good to know that finally the female lead is standing on her ground and fighting for her rights.  Who is Tommy Hong, in the first place, to tell her or anyone for that matter to stay away from the person she loves regardless of her motivation.  She pinned him on his place like she doesn’t care if he gets eaten by hungry wolves. I swear this guy should keep himself busy designing clothes than pimping for these big dogs!

I have to admit, in this drama, the people around the main characters are very fun to watch.  When they realized that Cha Seung Jo’s effort to wait for Han Se Kyung outside in the cold bore a fruit of success, they were just as happy.  I like that scene because once again scenes like that make the series easier to watch.  There are just times when I want to be entertained.

My third favorite is the airport scene.  Cha Seung Jo planned to take Se Kyung to France and he had all these places he wants to take her but it turned out to be a blooper.  He even conspired with Se Kyung’s bestfriend.  Unfortunately, she doesn’t even have a passport.  It was funny because his extreme self just met another extreme—a girl who dreams of going abroad but does not own a passport!  Ha ha ha!  It was cute and funny.  But it’s alright because even if they didn’t get to go, they were able to start building memories together right in their own backyard.  What best place to start but your own country, right?

Another favorite scene is the one where they had coffee in what looks like a gallery.  He revealed so much of himself to her.  That was something.  What better way can a man shows how much he loves his woman but to share a piece of him to her.  She wanted to do the same but he was too worried about I don’t understand what so she wasn’t able to.  Just a side note:  I am wondering if it was his father who bought his painting.

Who could miss the part when Chairman Il Nam exerted an enormous amount of effort turned bug-a-boo-ness to invite his only son to have dinner with him?  I guess a man in his position has so much pride; he won’t budge even to his own flesh and blood.  But for some reason I found it adorable!

At first he thought his son would say no, but oh no, before he hears that he had to say, “If you don’t want to, never mind!”  It was a good thing that Seung Jo has been in good mood lately that the whole thing ended up with them sharing a meal together.  However, what was a good start ended in Il Nam’s sarcasm towards Se Kyung being a possible daughter-in-law, which resulted in them insulting each other.

I also like the dinner scene with In Hwa’s family.  Yoon Joo had so much to say, I wish she would have specially the part when she was thinking, “You (referring to In Hwa) don’t know Cha Seung Jo”, when In Hwa was saying she has a lot in common with Seung Jo.

If you haven’t seen episode 10, I would say, the confrontation between Yoon Joo and Seung Jo, plus the revelation of Seung Jo’s past to Se Kyung is something to look forward too.  What happened between Yoon Joo and Seung Jo is no ordinary confrontation.  It was an avenue to end what was never formally ended; it was a means to clarify misunderstandings; and a way to say sorry and goodbye.  With Se Kyung learning about everything on Seung Jo’s past, she can finally prove to him how much she really loves him.  The beginning may not be good, on her side, but now she has a platform she could stand on to be on the same level as Seung Jo.

And of course, the best part of the episode was saved for last—when Cha Seung Jo announced to his dad and everyone present (Tommy hong, In Hwa’s brother and mother, and In Hwa) that he will marry Han Se Kyung.  I love the uneasiness in Tommy’s face!

Now, drum roll!  This is the beginning of bumps along the road for the two main characters.  I am excited to see how they will handle the problems that will come their way.  I am hoping for a more comedic resolution to whatever hurdles they will encounter or anything but melodramatic scenes in the future please!

With respect to Han Se Kyung confessing, Seung Jo should forgive her.  I made a list of some of the reasons why she should be forgiven.
Reasons why Cha Seung Jo forgive Han Se Kyung:
·         She is sincere about her feelings.
·         She showed how concerned she is of Seung Jo by wrapping her knitted scarf on his neck and giving him warm coffee (yes, I’m pretty sure it’s coffee ).
·         She declined Tommy Hongs tempting offer.  If she just wanted to make it to this dog-eat-dog society, she could have just accepted his offer.
·         She tried many times to confess the truth.
·         Se Kyung accepts him no matter what his past is and that is because she loves him not because of his riches.
·         He loves her!

Once again thank you for taking some time reading this article.  See you next episode!
