Upcoming Dramas: January 2013

Welcome to 2013!!!
Wow!  There are 4 new drama series coming up this January.  Now whether they are all worth our time is still too early to tell.  The synopses of all the dramas are not really enough to say whether a drama is good or not.  Just like those indie films.  The description makes it sound like the movie is boring but when you actually watch the film, it’s actually really interesting!  So anyways, I made a list of the series that I know are coming up, so far this January.  I’m crossing my fingers on some of them, to be honest with you.
A Hundred Years Inheritance
·         This will be aired Saturdays and Sundays starting January 5 by MBC and will take the place of May Queen
·         Genre: Romance, Family
·         Main Cast        Lee Jung Jin               as Lee Se Yoon
                                    Eugene                       as Min Chae Won
Choi Won Young        as Joo Yeon
                                    Shin Goo
                                    Kim Soo Mi
Han Go Eun                 as Uhm Ki Ok
·         This is a story of a family that runs a noodle house for three generations and Eugene’s character is one of the granddaughters who came back after the divorce.

·         I have seen the preview and it looks to me that this has both comedy and drama to it specially the part when Eugene, while in hospital gown randomly asks help from a stranger and at some point in the preview called the guy “yobo” and Lee Se Yeon (Lee Jung Jin) was shocked.  I just hope that once again it’s more comedy than heavy drama.  I noticed that even in what is supposed to be a comedy, drama series that the drama part tend to take over the whole show which kills the comedic errors of the characters.  Although, I enjoyed a lot of them regardless but for January, I am just hoping for something light.  It’s been a while since I’ve seen Eugene in a drama and she was always good before so this should be good, right?

Sirius

·         This will be aired Sundays starting January 6 by KBS2
·         This has 4 episodes and is the 23rd part of the Drama Special Series Season 3
·         Genre: Crime, Action, Investigation
·         Main Cast: Suh Joon Young as Do Sin Woo
·         The story is about drug investigation by a Do Sin Woo.  He is a police officer who is very persistent when it comes to drug cases he is assigned to handle.  He will be investigating about a big drug smuggling case.  On the day of the big arrest he corners one of the suspects of certain information but Sin Woo meets his twin brother there instead and it changes everything.

·         This sounds interesting, actually.  I remember watching a short drama series called Killer K and I couldn’t take my eyes off every scene of it.  It was harsh, bloody and full of flesh slashing scenes -- definitely not the fluffy type but still interesting.  The drama was so short that the story ran fast.  I am hoping that Sirius will be the same.  The fact that at some point he will meet his twin brother, this drama already caught my attention.  Once again the synopsis doesn’t really tell us much so I have questions like. Does he know that he has a twin brother? Or how did his twin brother get involved in drug smuggling?  I’m itching to know the hidden side of the story.

Flower Boy Next Door

·         This will be aired Mondays and Tuesdays starting January 7 by TvN
·         This is the 3rd series of TvN’s Flower boy series:  1st- Flower Boy Ramyun Shop, 2nd- Shut Up Flower Boy Band
·         Genre: Romance, Comedy
·         The Story is about a girl, Go Dok Mi, who secretly watches his neighbor who is a Manhwa artist and got caught spying by her other neighbor who will later have a romantic interest on Go Dok Mi.
·         Now here is one of the very few that doesn’t need a lot of words just to get anyone’s attention!  I can’t wait for this rom com series to be aired and just hopefully it will be available in websites that features English subtitles.  So please Viki.com, make sure to get the license to show this here in the US.

·         Main Cast        Park Shin Hye       as Go Dok Mi
Yoon Shi Yoon       as Enrique Geum
Kim Ji Hoon           as Oh Jin Rok
Park Soo Jin           as Cha Do Hwi
Kim Yoon Hye        as Enrique’s first love
Go Kyung Pyo        as Oh Dong Hoon
Kim Jung San         as Han Tae Joon
                                    Mizuta Kouki as Watanabe

Queen of Ambition/Yawang

·         This will be aired Mondays and Tuesdays starting January 14 by SBS and will take the place of The King of Dramas
·         Genre:  Melodrama
·         Main Cast:       Soo Ae                         as Joo Da Hae
Park Min Ha                as Joo Da Hae (child)
Kwon Sang Woo          as Ha Ryu
U-Know Yunho             as Baek Do Hoon
·         The story is about Da Hae, a woman who wants to get away from poverty and become the first lady and Ha Ryu who loves her ever since their childhood and can do anything for her.

·         I’m not so sure about this one.  Have you seen the teaser?  Why she was holding a gun puzzles me, more so pointing the gun at Ha Ryu or anyone for that matter.  Nah! If you want to be a first lady, you’d want your hands off guns, right?  You wouldn’t want to be on the front page of tabloids the day after you got your ambition.  I don’t know if I would watch this but I will try.  I just hope the story doesn’t contain secrets that are supposed to be told but are never told until the last 2 episodes and like the only way to clear up any misunderstandings or confusions is the revelation of some secret.   Urghh!  That would be frustrating!
