Drama Review: Cheongdam-dong Alice Episode 15

Cheongdam-dong Alice
Episode 15

The series is nearing its end.  In this episode, Se Kyung was successful in stopping Seung Jo from once again running away.  But the fights were inevitable.  It was like a pendulum; as they continue to crash into each other the pendulum continues to sway.  That’s what gave life to it.  Otherwise it will be nothing but a paper holder.

He continued to follow and bug her for an explanation.  But every confrontation only led to confusion.  A lot of things didn’t make sense probably because part of him knew that what he seen in her was real.  He probably wanted a confrontation because he wanted her to tell him what he wanted to hear.  But that wasn’t her style.  She’s determined to make him see the real her; not what he imagined her to be.
He followed her to the train station; seen her being pushed and you can easily tell that right there and then, he wanted to hold her and protect her.  It was heart-felt.

In a way, Seung Jo was thankfull that she stopped him from leaving.  Like he said, Se Kyung has been right about so many things so regardless of their situation, he listens to her.  This lead to him wondering if his painting that sold for 30000 euros, was purely because of his talent or fate.  It was obvious to everyone but to him.  Yoon Joo, whom he asked and suspected to have bought it, told him who really paid that much for his painting.  It was a total surprise to him.

As this series gets closed to its ending, I would like to look back at the whole story.  Now that I think about it, this is not just about Se Kyung or just about Seung Jo.  This is a story of all its characters.

This is the story of a girl who works hard both in life and in love.  She had gone astray for a while but she realized early on and faced the consequences of her wrong decisions.  She didn’t give up and stood her ground no matter how hard the tribulations were.  She stayed strong for her fight is not just for herself but also for the person she loves more than her life.

This is the story of a man who loved, lost and loved again after six years of nightmares only to face the same fate.  He lost his trust on the woman whom he thought was the one who showed him the kind of love that is not scary; a love that he can call his home.

This is the story of a woman who dreamed so high, she decided to go dark, all the way.  She is despised, looked down by people who knew her secrets.  She is envied by those can only take glance of her from a far.  She hid her past to protect the very person who saved and protected her the way she wanted to be protected.  But that has changed.

This is the story of two fathers who love their children differently.  The first one doesn’t have much but gave his daughters the warmth of home and family.  So when one of them went a different course to reach her goals, he was disappointed and blamed himself for if only he has enough, she wouldn’t have dreamed for more.  The second have all the material resources any person would wish to have.  He gave his son the life he thought was best for him:  money and education.  But material things alone weren’t enough.  They got separated physically and emotionally but he is proving that it is never too late to teach an old dog new tricks.

This is the story of a husband that felt betrayed by his wife.  He was her protector; her savior.  But now, he uses her the way he thinks she uses him.
This is also the story of a man who aimed high.  To reach his goal, he turned his back on what is morally right.  He played his cards well but every game has to end.  And it did for him when he met a girl who brought him back to his roots.

This is a story of friendship and loyalty; this is a story of betrayal, jealousy, and angst which resulted in schemes that ironically paved way to the truth, and will later liberate all that’s involved.

Cheongdam-dong Alice as a whole has facets, and each is like an important piece of a puzzle.  The story wasn’t extraordinary, but it is one that we could all learn something from.

Thank you for reading! J
