Drama Review: 7th Grade Civil Servant Episode 5

7th Grade Civil Servant
Episode 5

Kyung Ja who is now pretending to be Kim Jung Woo did a good job during the interview.  She was on her way out of the room when Gil-roo (Han Pil Hoon) stopped her.  He had questions about her identity.  He wanted to make sure that whatever information she wrote on her resume are all true and valid.  Once again, a battle of words between the two occurred which was thought to be entertaining by Mi Rae and the other company director.  It was funny to see how Gil-ro tried to control his disappointment when Seo Won (Kyung Ja a.k.a. Kim Jung Woo) blurted out that she has a lover and that she and her lover love each other.  That was so much “love” in one sentence!  Obviously he was jealous but oh boy, would he even let her have the privilege to rejoice over that!

I like how Mi Rae can bring out the snobbish side of Gil-ro.  She herself is a smarty pants but she has the wits to back it up.  Her character is becoming more and more interesting as the show progresses.

Prior to that interview, Seo Won was surprised with the mission given to her—to make Gil-ro fall for her so she can get an access to his house and the safe that has the documents they are looking for and need to get a hold of.  No Matter how much she tried to convince her superiors to not put her into this awkward position, she’s nothing compared to the feistiness of Yoong Soon.
From the interview she went straight to their office.  She reported right away to Won Suk.  Won Suk told her that she needs to get the job even if she has to hold onto Gil-ro’s legs and beg him.  From Seo Won, he then turned his attention to Yoong Soon, who at the time was putting on make-up.  And a hilarious happening exploded onto my face, I couldn’t help but laugh my butt out!  Won Suk sure knows how to push Yoong Soon’s buttons with his sarcastic state of opinion.
Won Suk:  You’re going for match-making session again?
Yoong Soon:  What match-making? I told you, it’s just a simple blind-date.
Woon Suk:  Just do your work.  It won’t work anyway.

That last comment took Yoong Soon’s attention from putting on make-up to Won Suk 100%.
Yoong Soon:  Why?  What’s so bad about me?  I work a salary, good education, fine looks and figure.  Don’t you think it’s’ acceptable with what I got?  Is there anything that I lack?  If I don’t work, men would queue up—in long queues waiting.
Won Suk:  Be nervous.  You’re 39 years old.
That was the last straw!  Won Suk just pulled the trigger to this uncontrollable ammo and everyone, watch out!

Yoong Soon:  (now standing)  What about my age?!  I’m still in my 30s.  Don’t keep bringing up about my age, senior.  Have you any idea what is the average life span?  Women in their 30s are still very energetic.
Won Suk:  My mom is very energetic too.  She’s in her 80s.

Won Suk’s facial expression in conjunction to what he was saying makes me laugh.  He’d be so serious yet speak of something very funny.  There’s no winning with him—not even Yoong Soon can!  Because of that, she took her madness to the other people in the office.  And it’s amusing how Seo Won tried to avoid being hit by the loud mouth “ammo,”  by sneakily walking out of the crime scene.
Gil-ro got a hold of Won Suk for what he called an “emergency”.  Gil-ro asked the latter what the deal with Seo Won applying for a job in his company.  Of course, Won Suk denied any connection with Seo Won.  Instead he claimed that Seo Won left NIS a week after Gil-ro.  Then Gil-ro’s wild imagination started soaring. “Perhaps…did she not approach me on purpose?”  He was guessing.  Won Suk leaned towards him looking very serious, and then suddenly hit him on the head with a spoon.  Abruptly, he was brought back to his senses!  That was a crackerjack!!!

Won Suk:  You act like you’re filming a drama.  Why would she approach you on purpose?
Gil-ro:  I find it strange no matter what.
Won Suk suggested all of the illegal ways for him to find out about Seo Won.  I don’t know why but I could not stop laughing.  Won Suk is the best and this drama is the best so far in comedy.
Do-ha visited Seo Won in her apartment.  He brought her beer and she cooked him noodles.  At first, I thought, no way!  Is he the “lover” she was talking about?  But as I listened to their conversation, I was able to breathe knowing that he wasn’t.  But it looks like he still has a thing for her.  He told her what happened prior and why the mission turned out the way it is now.  When Do-ha told her that Gil-ro likes her so it shouldn’t be too hard for her to get closed to him again, she remembered Gil-ro’s surprised birthday gift on her “supposed birthday.”  She does feel bad that now she has to fool him to complete her mission.  Poor girl.  She has to undergo all these anxiety, when in fact Gil-ro is still part of NIS and is also in a mission himself.  If only they know that, then it wouldn’t have been difficult.  But the show wouldn’t have been this captivating.
Later, she was in the middle of trying to shoo Do-ha away, when she received a call from Gil-ro.  Gil-ro was in front of her door and now, she doesn’t know what to do.  He couldn’t come in because Do-ha is still there if he sees him, the whole mission will go to waste.
Gil-ro was doubtful about the address so to prove that it is the right address, Seo Won opened the door and popped her head out.  She told him to go now since it’s been proven that her address in the resume is valid.  But Gil-ro is not a pushover.  He will get what he wants one way or another.  She was closing the door when Gil-ro grabbed the door handle and pulled her outside in the process.  Then the unwelcomed guest came in on his own accord.
Do-ha who was inside eavesdropping, hurriedly found a place to hide himself.  While Gil-ro was expressing his concerns and his issues—him sulking about being chased away, she was signaling Do-ha where to hide.  When Do-ha closed the door of the closet where he hid, the hanger where Seo Won’s bras fell exposing her undergarments.  Even now that I am just thinking about it, I can’t help but laugh especially thinking about Seo Won’s hysterical reaction.

Seo Won:  What are you looking at?  You never seen bras before?
She then placed them in her drawer then kick the dresser like she was kicking Do-ha inside, blaming him for her embarrassment! Hahhahaha!
She was able to convinced him to go out of the apartment with her to buy water but they ended up in a cafĂ©.  First he asked about how she left NIS and ended up job hunting.  Then he asked what he’s not supposed to ask that led to their new word war as to who could make the other jealous first!
Gil-ro:  You live alone?
Seo Won:  What?
Gil-ro:  Your lover would drop by sometimes then.
Seo Won:  Do I look like such an easy woman?  Would I allow him to come to my house because I have a lover?  Even if he’s a marriage partner, until we get married, I would never allow him in my house.
Gil-ro:  Who is it?
Seo Won:  Who?
Gil-ro:  Your lover.  Is he someone I know?
At this point, Seo Won is done talking about her invisible lover.  But Gil-ro’s jealousy cloaked in his ass-holiness, right now, was kind of hard to contain.   He suggested that she introduce her boyfriend and he will pay for the drinks.  Now it’s time for Seo Won to pull the trigger and point the gun at him.
Seo Won:  Alright.  Do you still go for match-making sessions?
Gil-ro:  I go for lots of it.  With girls born in the year of the tiger.
Gil-ro was probably upset that Seo Won was not showing even a hint of jealousy in her voice so he continued.  He mentions all the bull crap about him deserving a woman with good backgrounds and all.  This conversation was over for Seo Won, when Gil-ro mentioned about her supposedly asking him a favor to get the job she applied for in his company.  No matter what he said was of no use because Seo Won was determined not to ask a favor—especially that as much as possible she doesn’t want to land that job!  But because he won’t stop, she pinned him on his spot, with her words.

Seo Won:  You remember saying you don’t want to take over your dad’s business and you want to live life doing things you like?  For a brief moment I thought you might be someone good…”
She was so upset and disappointed at him that she walked away.  He tried to stop her but she said she’s going to meet her lover for everyone to hear.  I feel bad for both of them.  For Gil-ro because now, the very person he likes a lot thinks of him as a butthole and for Seo Won for feeling disappointed with him because she doesn’t know that the only reason why he’s working for his dad is his mission.
Seo Won called Won Suk and lied that she did all the methods he suggested to get the job but they didn’t work.  On the other hand, Gil-ro told Won suk that she acted like she isn’t interested in the job.  Then he asked him if her dad is really a farmer because her appearance makes her look like she’s from some highly educated family.  All this time, while he’s complaining about Seo Won’s attitude, he was carrying two big packs of bottled water to her apartment.
In the meantime, Seo Won’s dad’s effort to become the town leader seemed to have been working because questioning the town’s head in front of their neighbors made the latter realized his point of view.  Now, for the first time in years, they will have an election for the new town head.
Back in Seo Won’s apartment, when she saw the bottled water at her door, she was surprised that Gil-ro actually believed that she’s out of water and bought her some.  But she listened to her pride and initially didn’t consume the water.  But when she was really out, she didn’t have any choice and eventually brought the rest of the bottles inside her apartment.
When Gil-ro got the list of the ones who passed the interview, he changed one of the names to Seo Won’s.  Then a satisfied smile painted on his face.

In the secret NIS truck, So Won showed up wearing what her supposed outfit on her first day of work.  Yoong Soon was so dissatisfied so Seo Won ended up changing into a more glamorous and sexy work clothes.  Seo Won felt like she was going crazy just thinking about the mission.
In Joo Man’s (Gil-ro’s dad) office, Mi Rae expressed her needs to get a hold of the technology that Joo Man’s friend could possibly help them get.  Since Joo Man was concerned that his hometown friend could get into trouble that’s why he hasn’t started anything yet.  Mi Rae reminded him that it is a two billion project.  Mi Rae was whispering into Joo man’s ear about her HQ being interested in his son, when his wife Soo Ja came in.
Soo Ja told Joo Man that she knows what’s going on between them—that he wants Pil Hoon to marry Mi Rae since she is good when it comes to business.  This is all rumors of course.  She objects of course because she wants a woman born in the year of the tiger to marry her son.  I found it hilarious when the mom looks so serious saying she wants her son to marry someone born in the year of the tiger.  I don’t know why but it’s just comical!  She’s really into the zodiacs.
Seo Won together with the other two newly hired employees of IT and TI met with the director of the PR department that was sitting next to Mi Rae during the interview.  He was babbling all sorts of nonsense so obviously this is the source of majority of the gossips about the higher ups.  He could be a source of information…maybe.  You’ll never know.  Anyways, he told the three new employees, including Seo Won, that Mi Rae is arranged to be married to Gil-ro.  Then she remembered how Mi Rae looked at Gil-ro when Gil-ro asked her if she has a boyfriend.

The director also advised them to grab a hold of those good backing, himself supposedly included, and they will not have any problem showcasing their talents.  He welcomed them to the PR department.  Upon hearing this, Seo Won chiseled in and said she’s in the business planning team.   The director felt a little embarrassed nut it was cute actually.

Mi Rae came across Gil-ro in the hallway.  She asked how his department is going.  She mentioned this and that and asked him if he wants her to give him some tips on how to do business that earns money whether it’s good or bad money.  She came closer to him until he’s against the wall, then she fixed his tie while saying her “piece of advice.”  Anyone who doesn’t know would think they’re in a relationship and Seo Won wasn’t an exception.  Gil-ro’s eyes opened wide when he saw Seo Won.  Now there goes another misunderstanding.

Seo Won introduced herself to the employees at her department.  It was of course the same department that Gil-ro is heading.  Later, inside his office they had another play of words that I always call their word war.  They argued and every time they do, the more they prove how much they really care about each other [secretly].  I can tell Seo Won was jealous of Mi Rae being linked to Gil-ro.  No matter how much he tried to convince her that the rumor isn’t true, the hint of jealousy in her voice was apparent.
Gil-ro is so determined to learn about her real identity that he planted a small chip in her bag to detect her location at all times.  He continued to follow her everywhere she went—including the NIS head quarter.   But nothing is impossible for NIS so in a short period of time they were able to change the looks of the inside so it would appear to anyone that it is nothing but a legit business.  And a legit cosmetic/tonic business was what Gil-ro saw when he entered, of course with the help of his two small pins to open the locked door.
Gilr-ro already left the office when Seo Won received a call from Yoong Soon to run after Gil-ro and invite him on a date.  By that time, Gil-ro didn’t want to just go eat out with her anymore.  He wanted to go catch a movie and so they did.  Mission accomplished and more…
In the movie theater, Gil-ro held her hand.  She tried to let go but he didn’t give her a chance.  And once again, what could have been just your ordinary watching-a-movie- scene was turned heart-thumping by Gil-ro’s straight-into-the-heart confession of how he adores her.   “I couldn’t believe in you so I followed you.  You’re living the best out of your life and someone like me couldn’t believe in you.  I am sorry about that,” he said looking straight into her eyes.  Then later he looked at his hand holding hers and said, “I’m not feeling sorry about this [referring to him holding her hand].”  He hasn’t even said I love you and I am already giggling. His words penetrate the heart!

When she didn’t try to let go nor complain, a smile that he couldn’t control came out—very satisfied, indeed!  And Seo Won?  She was in awe.  What will she do to him?  He may be childish at times but how can she say no to a sweet and adorable man like him?  Oh my!  This couple spells CHEMISTRY!
This drama is like a dish with all the right ingredients—comedy, drama, kiss-ass women, cuteness.  What more could I asked for.  This is one drama that I know I will watch again in the future.  All the characters have their distinct role and personality—from Won Suk, down to the secretary of the PR Director. Everyone marks a spot in the viewers’ – none are forgettable! No scene is boring because none of them were unnecessary.  Kudos to all the people who work hard for this drama!!!
